# Introduction

A point cloud is a collection of points in 3D that can be collected from a 3D scanner or photogrammetric. Depending on the method, the point cloud can contain information about e.g. color and intensity.

Point clouds are typically used as documentation for a geographical area, and can contain many millions of points, whereby the file size can grow to several 100 Gb.

To make the point cloud read quickly over the Internet, it is necessary to divide it into an indexed 3D grid. PointView ™ utilizes this to be able to work with large point clouds in a fast and efficient way.

In the side menu for the point cloud window, there are many options for viewing and working with point clouds. The functions are grouped in folders which can be expanded or folded.
